Gas Cooling - can be added to internal
gas moulding with objectives of:-
To reduce cycle time
To improve dimensional stability
To improve inner gas channel surface finish
Gas cool is based on the PEP process. The
mould cavity is filled and sometimes partially packed
with plastic. Gas is injected to apply further packing
pressure, and then sequencing the opening of one
or more shut-off valves to enable the expulsion of
molten plastic to one or more secondary cavities.
The secondary cavity is then pierced with a piercing
pin and chilled gas is then allowed to flow through
the gas channel(s) to cool the plastic. Gas is then
vented to atmosphere before opening the mould and
ejecting the part.
