PLASTICS FIRMS TARGET 'OLD STYLE' PROCESSES

Plastics firms target 'old style' processes

Plastics manufacturers are being offered easy access to a sophisticated digital 3D prototyping service to reduce cost and development time.

A deal between market leaders Cinpres and Moldflow to offer digital prototyping on a project basis is designed to help plastics firms ‘poach’ contracts from companies using outdated processes.

It’s all part of a bid to make companies aware that modern plastics processing techniques frequently offer cost-effective, efficient, superior, recession-beating alternatives to processes and materials currently being used.   New processes can produce strong, lightweight products and components with fast turnarounds - and offer reduced storage, logistics, manufacturing and materials cost, along with improved durability, performance, and flexibility.

Cinpres is the world technology leader in gas assisted molding with exclusive globally-protected technologies helping plastics manufacturers offer cost-effective, high-quality applications – and defend their margins in a recession.   The technology generates internal cavities in products and components, reducing weight, cost and material usage and speeding-up cycle times. It is being applied to everything from furniture, automotive components, and tools to electronic goods.

Moldflow, part of Autodesk, is the global leader in 3D digital prototyping and analysis tools for the plastics industry.  The software helps plastics manufacturers produce accurate molds, use precisely the correct amount of material, improve gas penetration and optimise injection speed, clamp force and injection pressure.   It reduces the cost of expensive trialling and helps avoid errors.

Cinpres customers can utilise this optimisation service on a project basis, delivering significant cost reduction benefits. They can then pass-on the reduced cost of the digital prototyping to their own customers.  This flexible approach and easy access to Moldflow will allow Cinpres customers to capitalise on best in class service combined with best in class technology.

Cinpres Managing Director Jon Butler said:  “In a recession, customers look to brand leaders to add value.  We’re keen to help customers seize work currently being undertaken using older processes.

“Some companies use the same materials and the same processes, without question, for years.  We’re challenging the ‘we’ve-always-done-it-like-that’ mentality and inviting firms to talk to our customers about reducing costs and improving quality – and we’re helping our customers by giving them easy access to the latest best in class 3D digital technology.

“The credit crunch means companies are re-evaluating manufacturing strategies and the technologies of Cinpres and Moldflow combined will ensure that modern plastics processes will provide a route to greater competitiveness.”
